An engagement ring is the one piece of jewellery most people buy without knowing how it was priced. That is the part we set out to change.
LIRÈNE is a private diamond house working between Hong Kong and Singapore. We make engagement rings to order, one at a time, around IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds. There is no shop floor, no display inventory sitting under lights for a season, and no chain of intermediaries between the stone and you. What that removes from the price is substantial, and it is the reason a stone that would sit behind glass in Central can be set into a ring here for meaningfully less.
What a lab-grown diamond actually is
A lab-grown diamond is a diamond. Not a simulant, not a substitute — the same crystal structure, the same hardness, the same refractive behaviour, graded on the same scales for cut, colour, clarity and carat. The difference is where it began. One formed underground over an unhurried geological period; the other was grown from a diamond seed in a controlled chamber over a matter of weeks.
This distinction matters commercially and almost not at all optically. A trained grader with a loupe cannot tell them apart by eye; separating them requires instruments that read growth patterns and trace elements. That is precisely why certification is not optional.
Why IGI certification is the part that matters
A certificate is the difference between believing a stone and knowing it. It records the cut, colour, clarity and carat, and it states plainly whether the diamond is lab-grown or mined. Without one, you are buying a description written by the person selling it to you.
Every diamond we set carries a report from IGI, the International Gemological Institute. IGI neither sells stones nor sells jewellery — it grades them, and that independence is the entire point. An institute with nothing to gain from the sale has no reason to flatter a stone. You can verify any report against IGI's own database before you commit to anything.
What you are actually paying for in Hong Kong
Traditional retail carries costs that have nothing to do with the ring: prime-district rent, held inventory, seasonal display, and the margin of every party the stone passed through on its way to the case. Those costs are real, and they are in the price you pay.
Our model removes most of them. We work direct to client, source the stone once your design is agreed, and hold no display stock. The result is certified lab-grown diamond jewellery at pricing that is frequently 40% or more below comparable Hong Kong retail — for the same certification and the same recycled 18K gold.
How a made-to-order ring is built
Nothing is pre-made, which means nothing has to be compromised on. The sequence is straightforward and takes three to four weeks from the point your design is confirmed:
- We talk through the shape, the setting, the metal and the budget — in writing, on WhatsApp, or by appointment.
- We source and confirm your IGI-certified stone, and send you the report before anything is set.
- The ring is made around that specific stone by our jewellers.
- It ships insured by DHL Express, complimentary within Hong Kong and Singapore.
Choosing a shape and a setting
Round brilliants return the most light and are the safest choice if you are unsure. Ovals and pears read larger for their carat weight and lengthen the finger. Emerald cuts trade sparkle for clarity and a quieter, more architectural line — they also show inclusions more readily, so certification matters most here.
For settings, a solitaire puts everything on the stone and is the least likely to date. A halo adds visual size and brightness around a smaller centre. Side stones sit between the two. None of these decisions has to be made today, and none of them is fixed by what you see below — these are the pieces we have designed, not the limit of what we can build.
